... Even if I don't have anything super interesting to say. Sorry about that.
My band is still fairly tight, but I'm able to eat solids and trying to do the protein thing. Got on the scale this morning and it said 211 point something (can't remember what because of the shock of 211). I hopped off and back on again and I miraculously lost six pounds in 45 seconds. The scale was consistent in the 205 range as I jumped on and off a few times. But then I was paranoid so I went to our backup scale which agreed with the 205 reading. Whew.
I had lunch the other day with a friend whose mother-in-law had lapband surgery a few years ago. "Do you throw up at every meal?" she asked. WHAAA? NO. WAY. I told her I get sick maybe once every three or four weeks, and it's almost always a traumatic and miserable experience. She said her mother-in-law had lost a lot of weight but gets sick at every meal. Even if she just gets sick every day rather than every meal, can you imagine the toll that takes on your body over a period of years? Egad. My esophagus is sore just thinking about it.
Do any of you get sick every day? I do think I keep my band on the looser side because I'm such a wuss about the getting sick part, and I'm sure that has slowed down my weight loss (well, that plus the lack of exercise. and the chocolate.). But I cannot imagine getting sick every day. I feel awful for her.
That sounds awful. I've never PB'd or vomited or anything like that since surgery....my turn will come eventually...a right of passage I think for bandsters.
ReplyDeleteNo way! I can't imagine getting sick everyday. I think she needs to re-think some things. Scary!
ReplyDeleteUgh, no way. That would be horrible. Glad to hear from you! You and I...will be under 200 soon. VERY soon. You are SO CLOSE!
ReplyDeleteNo. I think she should talk to her dr. PB/sliming/whatever you want to call it is not supposed to be a part of our everyday life.
ReplyDeleteIf she's doing that, its a problem and studies have recently come out that show too much PBing can cause cancer of the throat. Pretty bad. Yuck.
ReplyDeletesick every day...awful!! I couldn't take it!
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't sound right at all. Don't know how she could live like that. Hope she has it checked out. I am terrified for my first PB, stuck episode.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds awful! I've never gotten sick that often -- even when very tight! Me thinks there is a problem there...
ReplyDeleteWOW - that sounds awful. I don't really PB (just get struck sometimes), so I really can't imagine. She most not really know how to use the band.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are blogging more - I've missed you!!
Wow! Every day - every meal? OMG. No way. Each time I've had an episode - it's been awful - I can't imagine doing that often!!
ReplyDeleteOMG, there has got to be something wrong, she should really be careful!!
ReplyDeleteSince my last fill, where I am pretty damn tight, if I am not careful, I wind up with episodes of sliming. It is annoying and gross, but not unlivable. It is also WELL within my control-- so I see it as an essential learning curve for now b/c I want to keep this level of tightness as it is working to help me lose more weight.
ReplyDeleteI think getting good definitions of what people mean by 'vomiting' is also really key-- when food comes back up with the band, for me, it is NEVER like vomiting, just like regurgitating food.. and slime is just a lot of thicker 'saliva' like stuff. Nothing that tastes like bile.
ewww , sorry if this is TMI.
I've NEVER vomited or PB'ed since being banded. Not once. I can't imagine getting sick that often, that sounds awful.
ReplyDeleteI don't pb every day, but unfortunately I've been having issues in the morning. I think I just have to accept that I can't eat solids before noon and be happy with yogurt, oatmeal or a protein shake.
ReplyDeleteI just posted on my blog - I have noticed that I let myself get to a point where I pb a lot more often...it's not "vomiting" and it's very easy - I feel uncomfortable and I just allow the food to come back up. But I know this is not an acceptable way to be. PBing has to be an emergency option as opposed to commonplace. And I fear it has become more casual for me.
