All three kids have colds and coughs, so I took them to the pediatrician's office this morning. On the way I had about 2/3 of my daily Zone bar, and within a few minutes realized it wasn't going down well.
As we walked into the office, my 15-month-old immediately started crying because, in addition to her 11-day fever streak and cough, she remembers that this is the place where they stick you with needles. The nurse came in to get the scoop on what's happening, who's got a fever, etc. I had to excuse myself and run down the hall with the baby (she freaks out if I leave her) to throw up.
I came back and the ped examined the kids. Middle Child is wheezing for the first time in his life and had to be nebulized. Older Child is fine so was sent back to the waiting room to watch Toy Story. Baby had to have a toe prick to check her white blood count to determine if her ailment is viral or bacterial (result: not sure, keep an eye on it. super helpful.). I had to excuse myself three more times to go throw up. Middle Child goes back tomorrow to see how nebulizing is working.
On the way out I asked the doctor for a plastic bag, and continued to throw up as I drove home. Question from my compassionate children: Mom, are you going to brush your teeth when we get home? And my personal favorite: Mom, can you please open the windows? It smells in here.
I'm sipping something cold and soothing now, and I can feel that everything is swollen. Damn it. I was going to make a nice dinner tonight too. Now I'm looking up soup recipes on foodnetwork.com.
**UPDATE**
Just threw up the cold drink. I had maybe 3-4 ounces. Spoke to someone at my surgeon's office who says it happens sometimes and I may throw up for the next few days. I asked what if I can't keep liquids down and she said well, that might happen but just try to take really small sips.
Any other suggestions? This is awful.
Well sweetness...that DOES sound like the worst morning ever. Myself, I'd be banging on the surgeon's door asking for an unfill...but that's coming from someone who's never been in this situation. Not being able to swallow liquids scares me.
ReplyDeleteFeel better. xo
I don't even know what to say. Holy miserableness. They expect you to not take liquids and be fine about it? um...hmmm.. I don't know about that? I'm sure it's swelling and it'll go down but if it's like this tomorrow morning - I'll come bang their door down with you. I'm sure Gilly will come too.
ReplyDeletebleh that was my day yesterday...well except for the 3 kids and ped office :-) i finally got some liquid to stay down but now i'm super swollen in addition to TOM arriving throwing everything out of whack! blame it on the ct barometric pressure the past few days!!
ReplyDeletetry some hot liquid maybe that will go through...
OK, you get to claim the worst day possible. Stick to fluids-warm, cold, hot. I usually can get ice cream or a milkshake down. You are swollen and it should subside in a day or so. I've been there and it sucks. If you can't keep your spit down, that's a big problem. But I will say, chocolate almost always goes down. Except for that one time...
ReplyDeleteGet better soon.
OMG.. you poor girl.. its bad enough with sick kids, and then when mom doesn't feel well.. scream CALGON>>> TAKE ME AWAY..
ReplyDeleteI am totally convinced stress tightens you up. and what is more stressful than sick children. I tend to find the warm/hot liquids are more soothing, but everyone is different.. perhaps some chicken soup with a soft noodle can help.. I am sure you will get alot of responses on this one.. hope things get better.. perhaps DH or MIL can step in and allow you to recoup... hugs to you Kristin!!
Holy crap, that is the worst morning ever! You poor thing. I agree with everyone above....sip slowly and if you are not better tomorrow, get to the surgeon asap. Feel better :)
ReplyDeleteOh jeez, I'm sorry. In agreement here with the slow sipping, maybe some tea would be soothing. Any kind of soup will give you some nutrition and ususally the warm food is comforting when you don't feel well.
ReplyDeletePoor thing, I hope you feel better.
ReplyDeleteAww..sorry. For you when it rains, it pours (puking wise).
ReplyDeleteOMG this is terrible. I hope you and the kiddos feel better ASAP!
ReplyDeleteOh girl you poor thing. I'm hoping that things got better as the day went on!
ReplyDeleteOh Kristin...feeling your pain, literally!
ReplyDeleteHow awful! Hope you feel better soon and the kids too!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about you and the munchkins...I have no advise because I've barely ever felt restriction but I wanted you to know I'm thinking about you cupcake. Feel better...both you and the kids.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry. What the hell with throwing up for 3 days??? I do not get that at all. Are you nauseated or is this a tight band thing? Do you have any zofran? Maybe can you get some prescribed?
ReplyDeleteI also don't understand the 'vomiting'-- are you talking about regurgitation or frank vomit? I'm worrying about you.
I wish you'd think about consulting a different practice. They just sound hideous whenever you speak of your doctors (I'm sorry.)
All I can say is that Dr. Ren and her practice are VERY freaked about excessive regurgitation-- and vomiting is a whole different thing... so the approach you're receiving just doesn't make sense in terms of my understanding of the standard of care.
Sorry-- I do not mean to freak you out more-- I just want you to be well and feel better soon.
Hugs...
Wow...I am so rethinking how I felt about my morning...Hope tomorrow goes better and your band starts behaving.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, you DID have the worst morning! I'm sorry to hear everyone is feeling so awful. Especially you! What a lot of stress too, and I am sure that is affecting your band.
ReplyDeleteI agree that you should try some sips of something warm and try to rest (I know, easier said than done with sick kiddos).
Hope you are on the mend soon.
I'm sure someone already suggested popcicles, but wanted you to know that I read your post and am hoping you and your kids feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteI remember Dr. Kurian saying that anything too cold or too hot could irritate things but that room temperature beverages are better..perhaps that might help? sorry you have to deal with this and sick kids! hopefully everyone is better soon!
ReplyDeleteSick little ones are hard to deal with, even harder when mom is sick too.
ReplyDeleteHope everyone is feeling better very soon!
