I'm Tweaking My Goal

When I saw my surgeon today, he asked if I had a specific goal weight in mind. I said I'd officially be out of the 'overweight' category at 145, according to the BMI chart. But I've never weighed 145 in my adult life, so I'm not all that confident I'll get there.

Dr. M said he thinks 160 is a good goal, I would be pretty healthy at that weight and if I keep losing beyond that point, great. But if I stayed between 160-165, he said that would be a really solid goal.

So I'm changing my ticker to reflect the new goal. Which is kind of exciting because now I have even less to lose before goal! I'll keep 145 as an aspirational goal, but I won't drive myself nuts trying to get there if I find I taper off at 160 or in the 150s.

Also, I did mention to my doctor that I had a terrible time getting in touch with him when I was overfilled earlier this month. I told him exactly how I had tried to get in touch, and he seemed surprised when I explained I called the office three times and his service once over the course of 24 hours. He said he must not have gotten the evening page, and he apologized for not having gotten back to me.

Oh, and the storm? The one that brought warning after warning and cancellation of all activities? Hasn't hit yet.

  2. We're about the same height, so my stats are the same - in the 140's to be "healthy". I've always felt that was unrealistic for me and my goal is 160 too.
That would put me a a solid 10 and I'd be happy.
Let's go for that 160, girlfriend.

  3. Me too. But I'm choosing 170 as my goal. Because I just like to be different. I'm sure your power will be out any second. Good lu

  5. Hey Kristin, aren't you about the same height as me? Because I had the exact same conversation with my doctor, and he said 160 would be good for me. 140s would be "normal" for me, but absolutely not sustainable. I am close to size 8 at 160! Size 8 is good enough for me (maybe even 10). After seeing you in person, I don't think you need to lose below 160, you will be super smokin at that size! Seriously. You don't look like you really have that much more to lose!

  6. Kristin, how tall are you? I think that Gen and I are the same height, or close too. (I'm 5'4 and 1/2). My surgeon never suggested a weight for me, but when I told him I thought 155 would be a good goal, he agreed. Right now that still seems like such a long way off. (30 pounds). I'd take 160!

Kristin, you are doing so well. Glad that you spoke to your surgeon about his awol weekend too. Hope that never happens again.

  7. Kristin, you are cute as a button now.. but I agree with everyone above.. and I think the 160 goal would be right on target, hell, I think 170 would be a fine number too!

  8. My dr. asked me the same question yesterday! I wasn't sure how to answer. I told him that for me it depends on how I feel. I know ideally that I would like to be 130ish, but if I feel good at 150 who cares what the number is. You are doing great!

  9. I too have really no idea what my goal weight should be, it's been so long since I was at a good weight, I can't remember, but I think when I get there, I'll know it. You are doing so well! And, I so enjoyed meeting you and getting to spend some time together. You are just as I imagined, beautiful, smart and oh so witty!

  10. The goal weight is a sticky widget.....we all carry it so differently. I friggin' hate the BMI chart, and yet that's how I set my goal.

  11. Yeah, stressing over a goal is goofy, to me. It's about health and stress isn't healthy. :) Exciting to be excited!

  13. Your numbers are very close to mine. I too chose 145 even though I'm about a size 6 at 155...don't know what I was thinking. Like you I'll be happy to settle in around 160...personally I don't give 2 figs about the whole BMI thing.
