Still Too Tight? Not Sure

Things seem to have loosened up a bit, but I'm still feeling more constricted than I'd like to be. Example: This morning I had a protein shake (haven't done these since post-surgery days but I want to be sure I'm getting protein in). By 12.30 I was STARVING so got some chili from Wendy's. Had a couple bites, it wasn't going down terribly smoothly. I would have had to slow down A LOT. Like, five minutes between bites. And I was realllllly hungry.

So I blended it to make it go down easier so I could stop feeling so hungry. Is that bad? Does it mean I'm eating around the band? I finished it and I'm not hungry now, feeling pretty satisfied.

I do find that I'm still feeling unsatisfied a lot of the time. I've looked at that yellow/green/red zone chart two or three times. Sigh. I go away this weekend for a week with the kids to Florida, if I'm not feeling a lot better by the time I come back, I'm having some fluid taken out.

  1. Girlfriend, I am right there with you. NOTHING is going down besides liquids, BUT I am starving. It sucks. Mine however just started two days ago - you've been at this for a while. I agree - a few more days and I'd be having some taken out. Sigh. Hang in there!

  2. OY Kristin-- caveat emptor, I've heard flying can make your band tighter. I haven't tried it yet so I can't say. Jennyr has had some experiences with that- but others say it is not a problem.
To me: I think you sound TOO TIGHT. I think my band is pretty much nearing the sweet spot and I will write my experience into a blog post b/c it will be worth the 'exercise' of doing so... check it out.
I hate to see you suffer, I think your doc ought to take a little bit out.
And NO: I do not think you're eating around the band, I think you are doing what you need to do to survive. The band is not a torture device, it is a tool to HELP you. I think you're suffering too much.
Lots of love and comfort to you sweetie pie. You are going to make it and get past this difficult time WHATEVER happens.
    kisses

  3. I hope you loosen up! While on vacation if you can try a glass of wine or martini to loosen you up might help dinner go down better. Have a blast in Florida!!

  4. It's hard to say if you are too tight. This band is such a tricky little devil.
I will say that I don't see it as you eating around the band. It's not like you were eating ice cream. You just made your soup thinner so it would go down. (Their beans are HUGE!)
My worry is that you will get tighter with travel and then be miserable. I would hate for you to have that happen where you will be away from the Dr. Can you call and get a TEENSY bit taken out?

  5. Have a great time and i hope you loosen up soon. Don't think that you are eating around the band. You can't be expected to starve! Keep your chin up!

  6. I hope you have a blast in Florida! It doesn't sound like you are eating around the band, because I always thought that to mention slippy-slidey foods like ice cream and greasy foods. I hope you loosen up, though, what a bummer!

  7. No, you're not eating around the band. You're eating mushies to get food down. I'm not sure if you're too tight, but trust your instincts.
I flew last fall and didn't feel any difference, but I also wasn't very restricted.
    Have a good trip!

  8. Short distances flying don't make me as tight as flying cross country. Did you feel a difference when you went to CO? I don't think that blending your soup is eating around the band. I think that term is reserved for when you're eating cookies/ice cream because it goes down easier. If you don't want to get any taken out before your trip, maybe stick to protein shakes and mushies or soft food like fish for a few days in Fl...

  9. Kristin, Are you refluxing .. that would be a bad sign.. and I would call the doc if that is the case. Otherwise, my first week after my last fill I was pretty careful, but now it has settled in and I go for another fill on the 22nd. I may only get .5 cc, but I still think I need a little tweak as I can notice a difference between week 1 and now.. just my 2 cents worth.

  10. I like to drink Isopure when I am tight. It's really pretty unoffensive, and has 40g of protein per bottle for 160 calories - so I sip at it for a while, and the protein really satiates me. Also, nibbles of cheese.
