Help! What's Going On?

I got a small fill yesterday, bringing me to 5.75 ccs in my 10 cc band. I had a bad stuck episode last night on a little cottage cheese - my worst stuck incident since surgery. I really need to get some papaya enzymes to keep on hand.

Anyway, after the cottage cheese finally went through I wasn't able (and didn't want to) finish my soup or wine, so I just went to bed.

This morning, I'm sipping a protein shake and it's sitting there, taking a long time to go through. Feels a little swollen.

Am I too tight? Do I just need to chill out and let this fill settle in? I need some advice from experienced banders.

**UPDATE** I weighed in at 229 this morning, a new low and a new decade. Yay! However, I'm starving so I'll see how another shake goes down.

  1. My doc says as long as you drink fluids you should give it a little bit. However, I wouldn't go into the weekend too tight. I do like my papaya emzymes. I don't know if they actually help, but every time I have used them within minutes the pain goes away. Could be just a fluke, but it makes me feel better.

  2. I kind of agree...If you get lquids down you may be ok. Give it the rest of teh day and if you still feel really tight maybe go in for a slight unfill tomorrow. Good luck

  3. I had this worry when I just got my band adjusted. Protein shakes were taking wayyyy too long. I was having trouble with soup.. and my fill doc is 10 hrs away so I was a little concerned.

Basically, I think I just have trouble with milk (protein shakes). I found myself, at one point, able to eat some solid food way better than my shake. Also - you may be a little swollen yet. But definitely pay attention -- I'd rather be too loose than too tight any day.

    Hope it gets better!

  4. Is your doc's office open tomorrow? If not, you might want to call and see what they say. I have a newbie question, though. When you get too tight, are you still hungry and can't get things down or are you not hungry? If you're not hungry, is being too tight for a few days such a terrible thing? Might be a stupid question. It's just that there are some days when I wish I couldn't eat. (Don't have band yet).

  5. My very first stuck episode was with cottage cheese. Its funny what can get through and what can't sometimes. I think you should call the doc and explain the situation and see what they say.

  6. Bonnie - I think it might be a little different for everyone.. but I know that for me, when I'm too tight ... I rarely get uber hungry (my stomach never growls).. but I do still feel slightly hungry. And when I eat.. if I get tight right away, the tight feeling takes away all my hunger. This might sounds like a good situation ... but when you have a headache and you're dizzy from not eating so much as a protein shake the whole day, you'll wish you could get SOMETHING down (plus.. less that 1200 calories is not a good thing). Some people do get super hungry and can't eat.. I get a little hungry but only after hours and hours of not eating a thing. I hope that made sense.. Plus -- too tight for me = bad acid reflux.

  7. Bonnie, I don't really know yet about the too tight thing, and I'm praying I won't find out. My surgeon said he'd always rather err on the too loose side (with slower weight loss) than too tight because of all the other issues that can come up. I've been fine getting soup and iced tea down today, and didn't have any problem swallowing my (small) daily pill, so I think it'll be OK.

  8. Too tight can be horrible, but if you had a pb right off the bat you may be extra swollen. If you can get liquids down, get it a day or two and see how it goes.
Also if you're near a Trader Joe's they have Papaya & Pineapple enzymes for $2.49. I don't know if it's a placebo effect, but they do make me feel better.
