Greetings, Earthlings!

Did you see that Stephen Hawking said he thinks there are aliens riding around in space ships and it might not be a good idea for us to try to get to know them? He may have a point there.

That's all I have to say about that.

I lost another half pound, bringing me to 42.5 pounds down which is super-dee-dooper but I'd love to kick it up a notch. Of course I'd like to do that while still eating cheese, chocolate and olives. And drinking wine. Oh, and not exercising much. So I guess I should stop bitching about why I'm losing so slowly.

I have an appointment with my surgeon tomorrow. WILL NOT be getting another fill, I think I'm plenty tight right now. Just a checking in kind of appointment, and I will try to offer some constructive criticism about the way he handled things when I asked if I should come in for an unfill a few weeks ago.

We're going to dinner on Thursday with my husband's partner and his wife. I know them both pretty well, they're very nice. We're going to an Indian restaurant and I'm a little worried about what to have - I can't eat much meat these days, potatoes will likely get stuck, there wasn't any soup on the menu. AHHHH. Thought about chicken tikka masala because of the sauce but it's still white meat so I think I'd get stuck. Maybe I'll go vegetarian and get one of those spinach dishes. I didn't see fish options, but maybe they'll have a special? I don't know. I love Indian food, but I'm not sure how this will go.

Also, my hair just looks like crap lately so I'm getting a few inches cut on Friday. Really excited about this - so much so that I may do a VLOG to show it off.

Finally, does anyone have a good recipe for band-friendly turkey chili? If so, please share!

  1. I will be so interested to hear what your doctor says regarding his comments about your unfill. that has 'stuck' with me since you posted about it!

In regards to turkey chili, I make an AWESOME one and have made it at least twice since being banded (but I have no real restriction). I usually let it simmer a really long time (like 2 hours) and that way the meat in it gets super soft and goes down easy.

I put a zucchini, onion, red pepper and carrots in the cuisinart until they come out mushy and paste like and then add that to my chili for a veggie boost.

  2. 42.5 pounds down is great! On average, that's over 10 pounds a month.

Here's a turkey chili recipe that I make almost every week and freeze in one cup servings. It's my version based on modifications of a few recipes I've tried in the past.

    Turkey Chili

Makes approximately 8, one cup servings

    1 tbl. Vegetable oil
    1 medium onion chopped
    2 stalks celery, diced
    1 pound ground turkey
    ¼ cup tomato paste
1 28 oz can plum tomatoes (I use the no salt added kind.) Use hand blender to make to crush tomatoes a bit, you want a chunky mixture. You can also used crushed tomatoes but I like the consistency of the chunky mixture better.
1 19 oz can black beans (rinsed and drained)
1 19 oz can kidney beans (rinsed and drained)
2 tbl. chopped fresh parsley or 1 ½ tsp of dry
    1 tsp Italian seasoning
    1 tsp oregano
    1 tbl fennel seeds
    1 tsp cayenne pepper
    1 tsp chili pepper
1 tsp crushed chili flakes (optional & adjust to make spicier)
2 tsp unsweetened cocoa or alternatively 1 tbl sugar
    1 ¼ cups water

 In large pot heat oil, add onions and sauté until translucent, stir frequently. Add celery. Add ground turkey, cook until brown. Be sure to break up chunks so that meat is evenly crumbled.
 Add tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, black beans and kidney beans. Stir. Add parsley, Italian seasoning, oregano, fennel seeds, chili pepper, cayenne pepper, and chili flakes (if using).
 Add water to thin mixture a bit. Stir and cover. Simmer on low heat for 30- 45 minutes.
 Add unsweetened cocoa powder or 1 tbl sugar, adjust spices if needed.
 Simmer for 15 an additional minutes.

    Freezes well.

  4. Oh Kristin.. so glad to read your update.
First SUPER on the WL.. you are kickin butt!
Sounds like you are in a perfect (but cautious) place with your restriction.. I don't know if my band is even attached to me anymore, because my restriction has LEFT TOWN!! ugh.. I feel tight the first few days after a fill and then no more (sigh)..
Can't wait to see your hair.. I did something so daring (I am nuts of course) when I arrived in Cinncinate (already stressed bc of having to spend the week with colleagues) I went to a day spa and had the works (mani pedi, and massage and a new hair cut).. I feel like a million bucks, so get that new do!.. I then went over to saks and had a new makeover (bought a ton of clinique stuff and a B Makowsky handbag).. and to end the day I bought new shoes... my point here is some days you just need to go and do it up and splurge on yourself.. so please VLOG and show off that new style..
I will be interested to hear what your doc says. I actually have a great communication with my doc.. he is not a fan of super restriction he thinks your should be able to eat steak (I didn't eat steak before the band so I don't know why I would after).. Yikes I just realized I monopolized your entire page. sorry.. but missed exchanges with you... enjoy your dinner out.. and make sure you update us..be well
