Excuse Me While I Vomit

OK, who was it who said PBing isn't really like throwing up? WHO? C'mon, stand up and be a man and tell the truth.

You lied! For shame.

Because let me tell you, my first real soup-to-nuts PB was **exactly** like throwing up. It was horrible. My husband yelled into the bathroom that he would hold my hair if I wanted (though I suspect he only offered because he knew my hair was already in a ponytail).

I've had a couple of faux PB's, once on a large antibiotic pill and once on pretzels I ate too quickly. Neither time did anything actually come up.

Today, however, the two very small crackers smeared with cream cheese and topped with the most delicate nova lox came back up. And it was ugly. (Closer inspection - in the toilet bowl - showed that I did indeed chew everything quite thoroughly.)

I had some chili for lunch today, chewed it well and it went down OK. Also had a turkey-and-cheese rollup, which when chewed into oblivion, did OK. I had a test cracker, just the cracker, chewed it well and it was OK. But then I tried the cracker-cream cheese-nova combo for dinner, and it was an unmitigated disaster.

Sigh.

I'm thinking I'll call the doc tomorrow and see if he'll take out some of this fill. I'm nervous that a) he'll refuse outright and then I'll have to find another doctor because I just can't handle jackasses; b) he'll insist on taking out the whole fill, all 5.75 cc's to let me rest and then I'll gain a ton of weight; or c) he'll take some out and then I'll be starving again.

I don't know what to do.

I've had a sore throat all day, at the very bottom of my throat, probably from acid. Not heartburn exactly, but I don't think it's a regular sore throat, it feels further back.

Ugh. Not my best day.

  1. I'm not looking forward to the unpredictability of the band. Sorry you had such a rough day.

  2. It's funny but not funny. I'm sorry it's so terrible for you. I mean, it's not fun by any stretch of the imagination, but for me it's not like vomiting. (But I'm not claiming I was the one who said it!! lol)

It's hard to decide what to do - my Dr. told me no so I gave up and just stuck it out. I only had soups, tea and coffee for awhile. If you are not comfortable with that, then maybe you should ask for a tiny unfil. I was TERRIFIED that my doc would take all of mine out too. I hope yours doesn't.

    Keep us posted!

  3. Hi, Kristin! That does not sound like fun at all. You sure it was a PB and not actually throwing up from your bottom part of your stomach? Definitely do liquids tomorrow -- your stomach is surely going to be irritated from that. Hang in there! It gets a lot easier!

  4. I am so sorry that you are PBing. For me it is like throwing up, it's just harder to get up and then I have a major sore throat for the rest of the day. I have no idea what I would do if I were you, it sounds like you could use a little unfill but then again after the swelling goes down you might loosen up. I would pitch a big 'ol fit if he wanted to take everything out though. I will be thinking about you. Maybe liquids for one solid day and then mushies to see how you feel?

  5. Poor puddin'! I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I hope your doctor isn't an ass tomorrow. If he is, switch to Dr. Ren...she sounds fantastic! I wish you could come to my clinic here in Toronto...they are so fabulous and so super supportive...I love them all to death! Stick with your shakes tomorrow, and I'll be looking for your update on how things are going. *hugs*

  6. Ouch! That PB sounds like a lot more like general throwing up than a run of the mill PB. A normal PB is just accompanied by a lot of saliva (blech too at the best of times - where does it all come from?) but when you have acid, that sounds like big stomach stuff. These bands can be unpredictable so do talk to your doctor. Crackers and lox shouldn't have done that especially since you did say you chewed it well. Or maybe your tum was just having a spazz attack. That happens too. Hope you sort it, kiddo. x

  7. Kristin - it sucks that you're going through such crappy physical stuff. However, I think the crappiest part is that you are worried about calling your doc. That doesn't seem right to me. You should be able to call your doc when you have questions, guilt free. I sure hope he's not an a-hole to you.

  9. See, for me...it's not quite like a real throw up...bc it never feels like it is coming from my lower stomach. But when I get stuck real bad, it is pretty close.

Sometimes I think the term PB has evolved. i think when whoever came up with that term started it, I think they were talking about the slime...when you go to throw up the stuck food and all that comes up is slime. I think that is a PB.

    So basically...what I am saying is...you are right. :)

  10. Oh suckaruni! I would defiantly switch to liquids for a little while to let your body repair itself. Fingers crossed that the doc will give you the tiniest unfill.

  11. I've had both in the past few weeks. The PBing or slimming-well I just open my mouth and this gunk slides out-sort of like Amy says-but my stomach NEVER contracted. The vomiting happened when my entire stomach contracted and everything comes up. I also couldn't swallow my spit and I had terrible heartburn (so bad, I had to sleep sitting up). Vomiting is bad for the band as the stomach is trying to push up through the hole. I stuck to fluids for a coule of days once I started vomiting as my stomach was sooo inflammed.

I ended up with an unfill so take it really slow and if it gets worse, see your doc. There is no way they would not take out fluid if they heard what you were going through.

  12. Awww Kristin-- I feel for you.
I hope you get this sorted quickly. If I can do anything-- let me know, I feel so badly about this shitty experience for you.
    You don't deserve it.
On the bright side, this too will certainly pass and will become a part of your band history in time.
